"As we lay here, sometimes in a cardboard box other times in an extra large reusable shopping bag, well organized with our fellow species or tangled up with some cloth and red enamel. Once in a while there's this hand, it picks us up, drops us on some painted surface. I saw companions being stapled, nailed or screwed to a surface and as if that wasn't enough this hand picked up a box cutter and started slashing ahead. The rookies bare the hardest beatings and were traumatized after being molested and left there for dead."
In this quote taken from Wim De Pauw's text "Coexistence in a state of interplay", De Pauw explains (from the point of view of the materials in his studio) how he is searching to let his paintings exist as objects in the real world rather than windows onto the world. He's not interested in representing the visual through paint on the canvas, but rather let the individual components of painting (canvas, frame,...) make new networks, which reflect on painting as well as on his everyday surroundings.
This exhibition is the result of the experiments De Pauw did in TTTT during the ten days we gave him the keys of the space. He will show works that reflect on the work in his studio and the transfer to the gallery space, These works provide a cellophane curtain between the general and the singular, where TTTT serves as the go-between between these subjects and the visitor.
